THIS TOUR IS POSTPONED
Dear Members and Friends,
Come and join us on this interesting tour with our guide Chaqa, a local guide with the Singapore Tourism Board. This visit will give to participants an insight into the history of the Singapore River and the people who began everything there from the finding days up till today.
About the Tour (from Chaqa)
Amidst the Pandemic, let us discover Singapore in a different light. Take away the commercial tourist attractions, the retail shops, and the glamorous expat lifestyle here and what do you get? A basic Singapore. I normally take Expats who live in Singapore around the island and introduce them to my local lifestyle… and there is no better time to do it than now!
Let’s meet at Raffles Place and walk our way through the beginning of this island. 725 square kilometers of what used to be 99% Rainforest is now only 1% left. Let me tell you how things were then compared to what you see now. We will walk by the river and make our way through the back doors of Chinatown via Telok Ayer street. We will visit the first temple in Singapore where the Buddhists gave thanks to and worshipped Ma Tzu. Then, we will walk through Ang Siang Hill, Chinatown to the other side of it… to old Chinatown (or real Chinatown) as we locals call it.
I will introduce you to the different food that you see and maybe, if you feel like it, we can even try some of them. I will show you where we locals go for our basic needs which is just a stone’s throw away from the bustling commercial Pagoda street. If you are someone like me, who often has aches and pains all over his body, let me show you where I go for massages, a place where the Uncles and Aunties are the ones doing the massage.
All you will need for this tour are walking shoes, comfortable clothes, and a good mood!
