About Petersons Wines
Petersons Wines has been at the forefront of Hunter Valley wine industry since 1981.
Its recipe for success is simple: tradition and continuity. Established by Colin Peterson and his parents, Ian and Shirley, Petersons have become recognized for producing premium, award-winning wines under Gary Reed, the Chief Winemaker for 30 years. They have two cellar doors in the Hunter Valley, and have expanded to a further two in Mudgee and Armidale.
The Back Block Shiraz is considered to be the flagship Shiraz from the Peterson Family. It is a wine that is only made in exceptional years from the old Shiraz vines on the property at Mount View. These vines were planted in 1972 and the very first Back Block Shiraz was produced in 1992 after the 1991 10th Anniversary Shiraz. The fruit is left on the vine for long periods of time to gain exceptional ripeness, yet retaining great natural acidity. The wine is rich, yet elegant and typically will age for at least a decade.
