Discover the oldest Buddhist Monastery in Singapore, an architecture masterpiece and a peaceful place close to the bustling city for a short yet documented visit. Then walk from the monastery to Balestier Road – a “vintage” street.
Looking for a lamp or a crystal chandelier? This street has dozens of lighting shops. Balestier road also has some of the nicest, richest decorated shop houses in Singapore! We will stop off at a few of them. First stop, one that has been roasting coffee for the last 50 years selling to customers and also to kopi stall holders. Followed by the bakery that bakes the famous white loaves used for Kaya toast in the Kopi shops. Next up one of the last manufactures of stainless steel, brass and other metals. The owner still repairs the coffee pots of the hawker stalls. Further down the road, down a side road, we’ll stop off at the well-known museum The Sun Yat Sen Museum, next to the Myanmar Buddhist Pagoda.
If you have time, let’s share a lunch at the local Hawker Center or at the famous Chicken Rice place on Balestier Road.
Don’t’ forget to bring umbrella, sunscreen and water!
If you are taking a taxi ask for the Tao Temple, which is just next door.
