Tours with Geraldene
Dear members and friends,
Join us for this historical tour by coach!
Geraldene Lowe-Ismail is back in town for a short period! Have you ever participated in one of her tours and were fascinated, too? In case you do not know her, she is Singapore’s oldest tour guide and also known as a walking history encyclopaedia. Geraldene began giving tours already back in 1965 as one of Singapore’s pioneer tour guides. Her tours are passionate, detail-oriented with a lot of insider stories and she can gain access to houses and places normally not accessible to the public.
These are our upcoming tours with Geraldene – almost a MUST to participate!
Monday 8 September – Historical Tour by coach, 9 -13 h
The routing is by Tanglin – Orchard to Civic District – around the Padang – telling origin of place names and lots of Colonial History and rivalries when Orchard Rd was Scottish & Irish Plantations with some Chinese Cemeteries in between! The Tour will also include visits to oldest Hindu & Chinese Temples with explanations of rituals and opportunity to take colourful photos.Drive through Chinatown with stop halfway for Refreshments. Tour will also include a visit to Historical Black & White House on Mount Faber – once the home of Anna Leon-Owens of “King & I” fame! Tour ends with visit to lovely old Mosque built by a famous lady – with a leaning Minaret!
This is the ideal introduction to many parts of Singapore for newcomers as well as for long-time residents – who are not familiar with its history!
