The next SAS cultural excursion will be at the MEMORIES AT OLD FORD FACTORY.

We would like to invite you to the guided tour with Vincent Gabriel. No one would be able to understand modern Singapore without looking at the tragic event that marked the Japanese occupation.

The Exhibition:

The memories and reflections of the hardships faced by those who lived through the darkest years of Singapore’s modern history have been captured befittingly in a permanent exhibition, ‘Syonan Years: Singapore Under Japanese Rule 1942-1945’. Through first hand oral history accounts, archival records and other primary documents from those who have survived the occupation, this gallery showcases the events leading up to the British surrender, life during the three years and eight months of life under Japanese rule and the return of British administration in 1945.

What happened in this event is the most important in the history of Singapore and has its impact on racial relations, the need for national service, the importance on a small country’s need to stay neutral in global conflict and finally in the attainment of independence from the British.
