Violet Oon is Singapore’s original culinary celebrity—she has cooked and written about Singapore food for more than 50 years, which explains why expectations of National Kitchen are exceptionally high. Luckily, the team doesn’t disappoint. Along with classics from her Peranakan heritage and a couple of modern interpretations, you’re in for homespun local favorites, including Hakka abacus beads, and spoon-tender daging chabek beef cheeks bathed in a fiery sambal (chili paste).
