Dear members and friends,
Join us for this last tour (for the time being) with Geraldene! After having already discovered the historical part together with Geraldene and the Black & White houses, this upcoming tour will take place on a Saturday so that families can participate, too.
Geraldene Lowe-Ismail is back in town for a short period! Have you ever participated in one of her tours and were fascinated, too? In case you do not know her, she is Singapore’s oldest tour guide and also known as a walking history encyclopaedia. Geraldene began giving tours already back in 1965 as one of Singapore’s pioneer tour guides. Her tours are passionate, detail-oriented with a lot of insider stories and she can gain access to houses and places normally not accessible to the public.

Tour Description:
We drive first out to Ang Mo Kio – to visit a workshop where they make small paper and bamboo items like House-Car-Trishaw. There is also a shop that sells all sorts of paper handbags – food items – mobiles- TV etc. which can be bought.
Then we drive to another area where there are two workshops – one making giant paper houses which you can photograph and where they have smaller items like cars – trishaws & small dolls made of paper which are fun for the kids to buy.
Nearby there is the family that makes the Giant Joss Sticks as well as smaller items and even Christmas Decorations & Nativity Scenes made of Joss Powder which lots of people buy for Christmas Decorations – they are really unique!
There will be some hands-on for the kids to play and teach to make something, too.
There is no aircon in these workshops – so please wear cool cotton clothing! BRING CAMERAS AS YOU CAN TAKE PHOTOS!
After this, we will drive to nearby local market where you can buy nice fresh fruit juice drinks and local food, if hungry. There will be about 20 mins for this stop – so you have a chance to walk about the market to see/buy fresh vegies & fruit and local cakes & cookies at good prices.
Then we will drive to Chinatown – to visit a traditional medicine shop and nearby a famous wood carver and calligrapher who writes special greetings etc. for the Prime Minister and visiting VIPs.
After this we will have a short walk around the block to show some architecture – and stories of the streets where you could stop and stay longer to visit the temple or have lunch, if wished.
Otherwise, we then take the coach back to Dempsey Car Park. If required, you could get out at Tanglin Mall or River Valley – Killiney Rd.
