Dear Members and Friends,
Come and join us for a guided tour of the Tang Shipwreck at the Asian Civilisations Museum, followed by a late lunch at Empress, the smart casual Chinese restaurant located in the Museum and by the Singapore River.
Venue: Asian Civilisations Museum, 1 Empress Place, Singapore 179555
Date: Wednesday, 28 October 2020
12:30 pm:  Tang Shipwreck guided Tour (Meeting point at the Museum ticket office)
Our guide Lía Santis De Emes, a volunteer docent of Friends of the Museums, will take us 1100 years ago, to discover the treasures of this Arab ship that sank off the shores of Sumatra. The ceramics and vases discovered are invaluable as they prove the existence of a maritime silk road from China to Iraq. She will help us explore the luxury objects coveted by the European aristocracy and learn how the Chinese created objects that mixed various cultural influences to make them more attractive to international buyers.
1:30 – 3 pm: Lunch @ Empress
Located in the Asian Civilisations Museum, Empress is a smart casual Chinese restaurant in a contemporary and vibrant atmosphere, offering dishes such as award-winning Pan-fried Impossible Gyoza, Royal Peking Duck, or Braised Heng Hwa Rice Vermicelli.
Fee: SAS-Members join for free, non-Members pay SGD 10.
Each participant will have to buy the entry for the museum (SGD 8, which can be bought the same day). For the Lunch, all bills to be settled individually.
