The Swiss Association of Singapore (SAS) is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit seeking association of Swiss nationals and persons with a close relation to Switzerland residing in Singapore.

SAS was founded in 2006 by Luzia Kappeler, the first President, who wanted to offer a platform of contact and network to Swiss people living in Singapore.

Under the shelter and support of the Swiss Embassy, as well as the sponsorships of few Swiss entrepreneurs and companies in Singapore, the SAS started to offer some events and activities for people to meet and mingle.

More formally, the objectives of the Swiss Association are:

• to facilitate contact among Swiss nationals living in Singapore
• to foster friendship and contact between the Swiss community in Singapore and friends of Switzerland
• to liaise between the Swiss Embassy and the Swiss community in Singapore
• to act as a link between other Swiss organizations in Singapore and the Swiss community in Singapore
• to organize social and recreational events that are in the general interest of its Members and the Swiss community in general

Due to the fact that Swiss Nationals are split into three language communities and that the main language spoken in Singapore is English, it was decided that the official language of the SAS will be English.

At the end of 2011, the SAS counts almost 500 members. All Switzerland is represented with more or less the same ratio of Swiss Germans, Swiss Frenchs and Swiss Italians as in homeland.

The Swiss Ambassadors are the Honorary Members of the SAS.
Any Swiss citizen or foreigner linked with Switzerland can apply for a membership; once the Committee has approved the submitted application, the applicant is admitted as a Member of the Swiss Association and entitled to all the membership’s privileges.
